Turkish demonstrators against Sharon's visit
Turkey-Israel, Politics, 7/31/2001
Israel continues its persistence to appoint former chairman of the Israeli intelligence Shein beit as its ambassador in Copenhagen, despite the wave of denunciation at the official and popular levels against this decision in Denmark.
The office of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon said in a statement on Monday that appointing Karmi jeiloun as Israel's ambassador for Denmark raised unjustified criticism, noting that the latter ( Jeiloun) was in charge of fighting what the statement called terrorism when he was the chairman of the Shein Beit.
Meantime, Scores of Turks who are members of the Turkish human rights committee on Monday demonstrated before the building of the Republic's attorney general in Istanbul to hand him a patent calling for the trial of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon because of his brutal practices against the Palestinian people. The patent held Sharon responsible for the blood- shed of the Palestinians and provoking the feelings of the Islamic states in the provocative visit he had made to al-Aqsa mosque in 2000. The patent also denounced the invitation extended by the Turkish prime minister Polent Acawid to Sharon to visit Ankara.
The demonstrators will submit the patent to the Turkish ministry of justice after it will be refused to be taken from the Republic's attorney general.
