Moroccan king's efforts to foil Zionist attempts to profane al-Aqsa mosque crowned with success
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 7/30/2001

The efforts made by King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, with the security council permanent members and with Islamic countries to prevent Zionist extremists from profaning the Al-Aqsa mosque and to foil their judaization attempts were crowned with success, said the ambassador of Palestine in Rabat, Abu Marwane.

The Palestinian diplomat told MAP on Sunday that these efforts have prompted the security council permanent members to intervene to stop the new zionist crime.

King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, had urged on Saturday the international community and the permanent members of the security council as well as the UN secretary general to take urgent action to ban any act likely to harm Islam's holy shrines in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and to spare the region a catastrophe.

King Mohammed VI warned, in a statement by the Al-Quds Committee chairmanship, against the consequences of the provocative acts that groups of Israeli extremists were projecting to undertake to harm Islam's holy shrines, mainly Al-Aqsa mosque. A small group of extreme nationalist Jews wanted to lay a cornerstone for a future Jewish temple on the Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

Abu Marwane announced that President Yasser Arafat of Palestine will shortly visit Morocco for consultation with the sovereign on the outstanding issues of concern to Muslims, and mainly the cause of the Palestinian people and the Al-Quds Asharif.

The diplomat stated that despite the clashes on the esplanade of the Al-Aqsa mosque between Palestinians and Zionist occupying authorities, the intense diplomatic campaign staged by the sovereign prompted the international community to exert pressures on the Israeli government, which was forced to ban the cornerstone laying ceremony and to renounce its dangerous provocation to the feelings of Muslims throughout the world.

He added that the sovereign's triumph, which is a triumph for the Arab and Islamic nation, is an additional noble action to the great work undertaken by the Alaouite Family all along the history of Morocco and Islam and is an additional evidence to the dedication of the Alaouite dynasty to the service of Islam and Islam's sacred causes.

The Palestinian diplomat also voiced congratulations to the sovereign on the occasion of Throne Day, marking this July 30 the second anniversary of the enthronement of King Mohammed VI.
