Morocco, Bahrain sign three cooperation agreements
Morocco-Bahrain, Politics, 7/30/2001

Morocco and Bahrain signed on Sunday a package of three agreements meant to consolidate bilateral cooperation in cultural realms, employment and human resources development and tourism.

The signing ceremony was chaired by King Mohammed VI and the Emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad Ben Aissa Al Khalifa, who was on an official visit to Morocco.

The first agreement defining a cultural cooperation program was initiated by Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, and Bahraini peer, Sheikh Mohamed ben Mubarak Al Khalifa.

The second agreement, a memorandum of understanding on employment and human resources development, was signed by Moroccan minister of employment, vocational training, social development and solidarity, Abbas El Fassi, and Bahrain's labor and social affairs minister, Abdenbi Abdallah Chouala.

The third accord, dealing with cooperation in tourism, was signed on the Moroccan side by finance, economy, privatization and tourism minister, Fathallah Oualalou, and on the Bahraini side by information minister, Yaacoub Al Hamr.

The three Bahraini officials are part of the delegation that accompanied the head of state Sheikh Hamad Ben Aissa Al Khalifa during his official visit to the kingdom this July 28-29.

Sheikh Al Khalifa held two work sessions with King Mohammed VI and was guest Saturday to a dinner banquet hosted in his honor by the Moroccan king.

He also received a host of Moroccan officials, including Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi who said he congratulated the Emir of Bahrain on the "blessed political stages" covered by the Gulf country and hailed the two countries' option for an institutional orientation that preserves democracy.

The ongoing democratic experience in the two Arab countries was also reviewed at a meeting with speakers of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament, Abdelouahed Radi of the House of Representatives and Mustapha Okacha of the Chamber of Advisors.

Bahrainis have recently adopted by referendum a new modernization and constitutional development national project which makes of Bahrain a constitutional monarchy and institutes the bicameral system.
