Morocco will not adhere to African union which repeated same error as OAU
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 7/28/2001
Morocco's premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi said Morocco will not adhere to the African Union, set up recently in Lusaka, for it has repeated the same error as the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
In an interview with weekly "La Vie Economique," the prime minister explained that African Union has repeated the same error as the OAU when it allowed a puppet entity "SADR" to sign its constitutive treaty. He went on that the self-proclaimed republic does not enjoy any international recognition, neither by the United Nations Organization, nor the Arab League, nor the Organization of Islamic Conference.
"Morocco, which has never accepted to be sitting together with this entity in the OAU, will not accept to do so in the African Union either, unless member countries take a political decision to expel it or at least suspend its participation," he insisted.
Nevertheless, Youssoufi went on, Morocco continues to maintain good relations with African countries. He cited in this regard Morocco's membership to the conference of heads of state of the Sahel-Sahara countries, and the historic decision announced by king Mohammed VI to cancel the debt of poorest African countries. He went on that over 4,000 African students are studying in Moroccan universities.
