Mubarak: Continuation of current situation leads to anarchy

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak called for dispatching international observers to the Palestinian territories.

President Mubarak, in an interview granted to Italian Courier De La Sierra newspaper, urged the G-8 countries to find a way to enforce the Genoa summit's resolution on dispatching international observers to the occupied territories.

Describing the decision as a significant step, President Mubarak said he called for adopting this step two months ago.

"The nationality of international observers does not matter as continuation of the peace process is the fundamental issue," President Mubarak said.

"There would be no war in the region if Israel had no other covert aims," he said, noting that his goals center on liberating the land and establishing just peace as war will claim the lives of Arabs and Israelis.

"Continuation of the current situation could lead to an all-out anarchy," Mubarak said, adding that the situation is serious as the Palestinians have no aircraft or tanks while the Israelis keep all types of weapons, Mubarak said.

The international community should work to end the current situation to establish peace in the region, Mubarak added.

"The Arabs are peace advocates as they don't want to spend their money for worthless wars," he said.

"Italy is an important country with a distinguished weight either in the international community or in the European Union (EU)," Mubarak said.

"Italy could help end the serious situation in the Middle East," he said.

"There is a good and constant dialogue between Italy and the Arab countries as the Arabs view it as a friendly country," Mubarak said.
