Experience of moroccan observatory of children rights is exemplary, WHO regional director says
Morocco, Culture, 7/26/2001

The World Health Organization's regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, Houssine Aljazairi, visited on Wednesday the Moroccan Observatory of Children Rights (ONDE) and inquired about the institution's actions.

He described as exemplary the ONDE experience in handling children problems, citing particularly the involvement of families wishing to receive street children as an efficient solution to the problem of homeless children.

ONDE executive director, Mustafa Daniel said the observatory considers children health as a major axis of its action that complies with international methods and seeks to associate society, the media, ngos and the health ministry in improving children health. He singled out in this regard the "one village, one well" formula as an ideal tool to improve children health and girls schooling.

The WHO official also heard explanations on other actions, mainly the opening of 15 units within hospitals to receive children victims of ill-treatment and a defense network within 60 first instance courts, in addition to the continuation of awareness campaigns to fight ill-treatment of children.
