US-brokered Palestinian-Israeli meetings
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/25/2001
Security meetings between the Palestinian and Israeli sides are expected to be resumed today, with American delegates taking part in the talks.
Meanwhile, Palestinians accused Sharon's government of adopting the "quiet" assassination method of liquidating Palestinian cadres, to avoid world condemnation of big military operations. The accusation came after 3 Palestinians had been killed in the West Bank and Gaza at the hands of the Israeli troops that carried out swift intensive assaults against some Palestinian towns.
Soon after being back from an Arab tour, Palestinian leader Y. Arafat denounced Israel's refusal to deploy international observers in the occupied lands. He told reporters that Israel cannot go on rejecting the escalating world calls in this concern.
Again, the chief Palestinian negotiator, S. Erekat, urged the Arabs, as necessary, to provide the means for self-defence. He said while the Arabs affirm their strategy of peace as sole option, they have nothing to do except to call for the urgent practical implementation of Mitchell's recommendations and Tenet's understandings.
The head of the Palestinian General Intelligence, T. Terawi, said the Palestinian delegation in the security meeting will submit a list of more than 50 names of Israeli terrorists involved in operations against Palestinian civilians. He added that the Palestinian side has enough evidences that prove the crimes committed by those terrorists.
Terawi defied Israeli defence minister, Ben Eliezer, to disclose the results of the investigations performed with some Israeli officers in this concern.
