Kertzer calls on Egypt, Jordan to return back their ambassadors to Israel
Regional-Israel, Politics, 7/25/2001
The new US ambassador to Israel Daniel Kertzer said on Tuesday that Egypt and Jordan, the two Arab states signatories of the peace treaty with Israel have to return back their two ambassadors to Tel Aviv as soon as possible.
In a statement to the Israeli army radio upon his submission of his credentials, Kertzers said it is time that these two states to be presented in Israel at the level of ambassadors. He added:" We have listened to the explanations made by the two countries on their own reason (why they did withdraw their ambassadors from Israel), but we have not lost hope."
Egypt, the first to have signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, had summoned its ambassador from Israel in November 2000 in protest of the Israeli repression of the Palestinian Intifada. Jordan which signed a peace agreement with Israel in 1994 in November postponed sending its new ambassador to Tel Aviv.
