Al-Assad invited to visit Italy

The foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Tuesday in Damascus received the director general of the Middle East department at the Italian Foreign ministry. The Italian official handed al-Shara a message addressed to President al-Assad, inviting him to visit Italy. The invitation was extended by the Italian President Carlo Chambi.

Present at the meeting were the deputy foreign minister Siba Nasser, the director of the west Europe department at the foreign ministry Ali al-Hamwi and the Italian ambassador in Damascus.

Talks dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and means of strengthening them in all fields. Discussions also dealt with developments of conditions in the region and the Israeli practices against the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

In the area of cooperation, the minister of state for planning Issam al-Zaem discussed with the Italian minister and members of the accompanying delegation during their meeting on Tuesday means of strengthening relations.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of health, tourism, state for the environment, higher education, transport and industry, several deputies of ministers and officials concerned.

Al-Zaem and the Italian minister stressed the deep historical relations linking the two friendly countries and the need of deepening and strengthening them in all areas as well as opening new horizons for cooperation in the field of investment and encouraging trade exchange and technical and technological cooperation.
