UAE Foreign minister in Iran

Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said in Tehran Monday that "commonalties among regional states prompt them to promote mutual cooperation, safe-guard the Persian Gulf and its wealth collectively and forge close cooperation with each other. Kharrazi told the visiting United Arab Emirate's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan that President Khatami's foreign policy is based on three axes, namely detente, confidence building and collaboration," IRNA reported

IRNA added "He said that the policy has left an impact on the region and the world, adding, Iran will continue the policy, he added. Kharrazi said the UAE minister's visit to Tehran is highly significance and Iranian leaders, President Khatami in particular, are bent on expanding ties with the UAE. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said that his government welcomes Iran's foreign policy of detente and regional cooperation. He said that Iran and the UAE enjoy immense commonalties and the UAE head Sheikh Zayed Al-Nahyan has special respect for President Khatami. He added that his visit indicates the UAE officials' determination to expand cooperation with Iran."

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan arrived in Tehran Monday and is to congratulate President Mohammad Khatami on his landslide re-election in June on behalf of the president of UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. The UAE minister of state in being accompanied by Information Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and the interior ministry under-secretary, Sheikh Seif bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, IRNA added.
