Morocco-United Arab Emirates, Politics, 7/24/2001

Relations between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates are a model that other Arab countries should follow, said deputy governor of Dubai and UAE finance and industry minister, Sheikh Hamdane Bin Rached Al-Maktoum, upon arrival in Rabat on Monday.

The UAE official who is paying a four-day official visit to Morocco at the invitation of prince Moulay Rachid said he will be exploring with Moroccan officials new paths to promote cooperation and coordination, mainly in economic and investment fields.

After he underscored the excellent relations binding the two states, he said the two sides' similar viewpoints on various issues are likely to further consolidate the brotherly links.

Sheikh Hamdane attended on Monday a dinner hosted in his honor by prince Moulay Rachid. Members of his delegation, mainly the chairman of Emirates Airlines, the telecommunication minister and general manager of the Dubai town council also attended the dinner.

Morocco and the UAE, which convened last June 25-26 their joint commission, had announced the creation of a free-trade area, the first between Morocco and a Gulf country. Several joint cooperation accords and investment projects were agreed upon at the meeting.
