Israel covers for a crime by refusing international observers
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 7/23/2001

The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Maher accused Israel today of covering for a crime by refusing to receive international observers. The decision to send international observers there has been recently supported by the G-8 summit.

Maher told reporters that it is natural to have a side in the conflict accusing the other of violating the cease-fire adding it is surprising that while Israel accuses the Palestinians of not keeping their agreements, it refuses to receive international observers.

Maher pointed to the fact that "the side who covers for a crime is the side who does not want anyone to get acquainted with his bad deeds." Maher considers the Israeli stance "revealing the real intentions and policies of the Jewish state."

The heads of states and governments of the G-8 supported in their summit in Genoa yesterday the sending of neutral observers to the Middle East stressing at the same time that both sides must agree on receiving those observers.

Maher also warned the world community against the continuation of such Israeli policies without any international determent or intervention. Maher asserted that "the region including the Israeli people themselves will be exposed to tremendous dangers."

The Minister added that "the few coming days will witness positive moves towards resisting or opposing such Israeli policies" without giving more details.
