Regional-Maghreb, Politics, 7/23/2001
Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, starts Wednesday a Maghreb tour to lead him to Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
The Arab League chief will discuss with north African leaders latest developments in the occupied territories and the Israeli military escalation against the Palestinian people as well as means to extend further political and material backing to the intifada and to the Palestinian people's struggle against the Israeli occupation, Egyptian Al-Akhbar daily reports this Monday quoting Arab League sources.
Amr Moussa will also expound his project to modernize and restructure the league, the daily said.
The project provides for the appointment of outstanding Arab personalities as commissioners in the political, economic, social and information fields and of personal envoys of the secretary general. It also stipulates a revision of the league budget and sets a ceiling for the staff to be hired by the pan-Arab organization.
