Israeli message to Jordan
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/19/2001
In its Wednesday's issue, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot unveiled that the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer had delegated by the end of last week to Jordan a secret envoy and asked him to carry a message to the Jordanian officials.
The Israeli radio quoted the paper as saying that Bin Aleazer delegated his advisor for the Arab affairs David Hakham, who conveyed a message to the chief of staff of the Jordanian army Youssef Malkawi a message addressed to the Jordanian prime minister Ali Abu al- Ragheb including an explanation to the current conditions and an Israeli pledge to exert all efforts to prevent the deterioration of conditions at the regional level, as he claimed.
The Israeli radio claimed that Bin Aleazer's step falls in the course of his efforts to avoid making tension in the relations between Israel and Jordan after Israel had received worrying messages from Jordan in which Amman expressed its fears over the deterioration of conditions regionally. A matter which undermines the Jordanian interests.
