Iraqi president speech on national day
Iraq, Politics, 7/18/2001

The Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Tuesday called on the Arabs to organize their lines and take a united position to counter the enemies of the Arab nation, foremost being Israel and its allies, stressing that the timing is now suitable for achieving this objective.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Iraqi Baath party assuming power in Iraq, Saddam stressed that the " patience of the Arabs to the repression of the enemy reached its extreme. A matter which makes it necessary for the Arabs to play the required role in order to put an end to the Israeli aggression and its usurpation of the Arab territories."

Hussein stressed that Iraq's ability to build up and choose its alternatives is now better than it was before the year 1991. He considered the sanctions imposed on Iraq since that time as attempts revealing the despair of Iraq's enemies.
