Giza-6th of October city railway, opened

Egyptian Minister of Transport Ibrahim el-Demiri witnessed Yesterday the setting in operation of the railway line from Giza to the 6th of October City.
At the opening ceremony, Demiri announced that the establishment of the 67km-long line is part of the Ministry's strategy to effectively link the new residential communities with Cairo.
He added that there would be six daily 50-minute trips from Giza Dawahy to 6th of October, as well as six coming the other way. The minister also indicated that the route would soon be extended to 6th of October Airport.
According to el-Demiri, a similar plan will apply to the Eastern Cairo region, in which Ain Sahms-el-Robeeky railway line will be extended to link el-Shorouk city, Badr city and Suez.
In related news, the minister witnessed today the first trip of one of the three new underground metro imported from Japan, which will operate on Line 1 (el Marg-Helwan).
The new rolling stock consists of seven coaches, which can carry up to 2,850 passengers at one time.
