Al-Assad confers with UAE minister, gets a telephone call from Annan

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday at the Damascus al-Shaab palace received the United Arab Emirates UAE minister of information Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who is also the chairman of the UAE side to the Syrian- UAE joint higher committee.
Present at the meeting were the deputy premier for economic affairs Khaled Raad and the UAE ambassador in Damascus.
Talks dealt with the situation in the region and brotherly relations between Syria and the UAE.
The two sides reviewed works of the Syrian- UAE joint committee.
The President made assurances on the good health of the UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan and asked the UAE minister to convey his greetings and goods wishes for President Zayed's good health and happiness.
On Sunday evening the President received a telephone call from the UN secretary general Kofi Annan during which discussions dealt with the situation in the region, the ME peace process and the deteriorated conditions in the occupied Arab territories.
During the telephone call the President stressed that Syria was and is still with the just and comprehensive peace and has committed to all international resolutions and that the peace process is now in a deadlock and the only acceptable solution is to implement the international resolutions, and the Madrid's terms of reference and that the problem lies in the Israeli side which rejects the implementation of these resolutions.
The President asked Annan that his efforts should be limited to the implementation of the UN resolutions relating to the peace process.
