Egypt FM speak on the telephone with German counterpart, EU officials
Egypt-European Union, Politics, 7/16/2001

The Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher on Friday in Cairo received two telephone calls from each of his German counterpart Yushka Fischer and the representative of the European Union EU for the foreign policy Javier Solana during which current developments in the Middle East region were reviewed.

Following the two telephone calls Maher said that Fischer and Solana agreed with him that the situation is very grave and the need to move to halt the escalation of what he called acts of violence.

Maher continued adding that he had stressed to Fischer and Solana that the first step should be for Israel to stop its practices against the Palestinian people and the policy of demolishing houses and expulsion of the Palestinians and imposing the siege on the Palestinian cities as well as preventing movement from one place to another, noting that these acts obstructs the return back of calm to the region.
