European Union enlargement adversely impact Mediterranean importance, German official
Regional-European Union, Politics, 7/14/2001
The enlargement of the European Union (UE) to include East and central European countries would decrease the importance of the Mediterranean area in the European policy.
The statement was made Thursday in Rabat by visiting German secretary of state for economic cooperation and development, Ms. Uschi Eid.
It is in this connection that the German government tries to develop cooperation ties with Mediterranean countries in a bid to sharpen their economies competitive edge pending the creation of a free trade area with the EU in 2010, she said.
During her stay in Morocco, the German official conferred with several Moroccan officials on means to upgrade cooperation ties between the kingdom and her country.
