US Evangelical Church statement commends Egypt's religious freedom
Egypt, Religion, 7/12/2001

The US Evangelical Church praised the religious freedom enjoyed by Christians in Egypt, particularly in the practice of worship and citizenship rights.

A statement by the church Synod in its 213th session, held a few days ago at Louisville, Kentucky, expressed concern over the harm that might be caused by the US Religious Freedoms Committee through its investigations in some countries, including Egypt.

The church wondered about the criteria the committee sticks to in selecting some countries while ignoring others.

Priest Baqi Sadaqa Girgis, Head of the Egyptian Nile Evangelical Synod, said the US statement pinpointed that Copts are grateful for the role played by the Evangelical church in Egypt through schools, medical centers and social activities.
