UNESCO director-general starts visit to Morocco

Director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO/based in Paris), Koichi Matsuura, started on Wednesday a four-day official visit to Morocco.

Matsuura, who is visiting Morocco for the second time since he took office in 1999, is scheduled to hold talks with several Moroccan officials, including prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, education minister, Abdellah Saaf, and culture and communication minister, Mohamed Achaari.

He will also take part in the closing session of an ongoing international colloquy on "inter-civilizations dialogue," held in Rabat this July 10-12 by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO/based in Rabat). The UNESCO chief will make a presentation on "UNESCO role in consolidating peace culture and inter-civilizations dialogue."
