Spanish labor socialist party delegation hold talks in Morocco
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 7/12/2001

A delegation from the Spanish labor socialist party (PSOE), currently on a visit to Morocco, met on Wednesday prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, and minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.

Talks with Morocco's socialist prime minister insisted on the need for frank and realistic dialogue between the two countries to develop cooperation and find solutions to economic, social and cultural divergences.

With Benaissa, the delegation -led by spokesman of the PSOE parliamentary group and secretary for social and migration policies- exchanged views on illegal emigration and Spain's assistance to control the phenomenon.

The Spanish MPS said their party is willing to overcome juncture difficulties in relations between the two countries in order to maintain and consolidate close ties. The head of the Moroccan diplomacy also renewed Morocco's firm will to consolidate partnership between the two Mediterranean countries which share a common history.

During a meeting with Abdelouahed Radi, speaker of the Moroccan house of representatives (lower chamber), the Spanish delegation said the PSOE is endeavoring to correct the stereotypes on Morocco disseminated by some Spanish media and insisted that it is in the interest of Spain and of Europe to support ongoing reforms in Morocco. He also underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting dialogue and consolidating relations between the two neighboring countries.
