Free zone area between Jordan, Israel
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 7/12/2001

The Israeli radio on Wednesday unveiled that works have started to establish a free trade area between Israel and Jordan at the borders between the two sides at an area of 1500 dunnums and at a total cost estimated at more than $ 300 million.

The radio added that this project wins the support of the US and the World Bank and that the US will buy manufactured commodities in this zone after exempting them from customs fees, whereas the World Bank announced allocation of $ 36 million to build the first 1000 square meters of this project. Moreover, Israeli businessmen are intending to contribute to a sum of $ 70 million in the first phase of this project.

The radio noted that the implementation of this project has started in the Jordanian side several years ago through building several infrastructure projects, while works were not implemented in the Israeli side because of the rejection of environmental sides to establish this zone between Jordan and Israel.
