Iraq resumes oil pumping
Iraq, Politics, 7/11/2001
The Turkish ministry of energy announced on Tuesday that Iraq has resumed pumping of its oil through Karkouk Ð Yamer Talek line to the Turkish Jeihan port, and that this act was made after Iraq agreed together with the UN a formula to extend the oil-for-food program for another 5 months.
Worthy mentioning that Iraq had stopped its oil exports supervised by the UN on June 4 in protest of American and British proposals to amend the commercial sanctions imposed on Iraq since 11 years under what is called " smart sanctions."
Meantime, Iraq on Tuesday called on the UN Security Council to lift the sanctions imposed on its since 11 years, stressing it will refuse any new project that does not include this measure.
The Iraqi minister of state for foreign affairs Naji Sabri said that Iraq had met all its obligations since a very long time and that it is time for the UN Security Council to fulfil its obligations according to the resolutions it had already issued.
Sabri explained that Iraq refused any project that does not realize full and comprehensive lift of the siege imposed on it and will refuse any project that does not include this right clearly, the same happened to the Anglo- American project ( smart sanctions) and resolution no. 1284.
