Water shortage in Jordan
Jordan-Syria, Economics, 7/11/2001

The BBC correspondent in Amman said on Tuesday that Jordan at the meantime, suffers water shortage due to the drought inflected on it in recent years.

The correspondent quoted the Jordanian minister of water and irrigation Hazem al-Nasser as saying that high ranking meetings will be held next week between Syrian and Jordanian officials in order to increase the flow of waters of al-Yarmouk river to the Jordanian territories.

The correspondent said that Jordan has in recent years asked Syria to help it in providing it with waters in order to eliminate this crisis and to build al-Wahda dam on this river. However, the correspondent said this project was postponed because of financial supplies and political disputes.
