Islamic sovereignty over Al Haram al Sharif, not to be relinquished
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 7/10/2001

Egyptian Presidential Political Advisor, Osama Al Baz said 6th of October war was the most significant in Arab-Israeli conflict as it sent a message to Israel to stop its aggressive policies. It also proved Israel is not stronger than Arabs.

In his meeting with Egyptian universities students in Helwan camp, Cairo, Baz reviewed the different stages of the peace process in the Mideast since Camp David I till Camp David II talks which achieved some success, yet the Israeli side was so stubborn on Al Haram Al Sharif. Israel wants to control or share control on A1 Haram A1 Sharif on their belief that it contains the remains of Mount Temple.

Baz noted that the Arabs and Muslims can not relinquish sovereignty over Al Haram Al Sharif since it includes Islamic sanctities.

"The policy followed by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is rejected by the Arabs and the international community at large since no respectable party can accept the assassination operations carried out by Israel," added Baz.

He pointed out that the international community has already condemned the Israeli practices and is supposed, accordingly, to take a stronger stance towards these practices.

"Israel can not isolate itself from the entire international community as 70 % of its trade is with European countries," added Baz.

Answering a question on Israeli extremists' calls for striking at the Egyptian High Dam, Baz said that the Israelis themselves have rejected these calls.

He confirmed, however, that anybody who would think to do so will be met with a response which he can not bear. "Egypt can protect all its lands," Baz said.
