Iraqi citizens are permitted to visit Syria
Iraq-Syria, Politics, 7/10/2001
The London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily said on Monday that special information reported that the Iraqi passports department issued recommendations permitting all Iraqi citizens to travel to Syria and not to set a precondition that the travel will be only confined to traders, industrialists and businessmen.
An official source at the Iraqi passports department told the paper in a statement issued on Monday that Iraq has permitted the entry of the Syrian citizens to the Iraqi territories without the need for the entry visa, in line with an agreement between the Iraqi and Syrian sides and an implementation to the principle of similar reciprocated treatment between " the two sisterly countries."
In this respect, the source recalled that the Syrian government has permitted the Iraqi citizens to head for Syria, like Arab citizens of other Arab states.
