Jordanian Premier confers with French official
Jordan-France, Politics, 7/10/2001

The Jordanian prime minister Ali Abu al-Ragheb has warned against not giving positive signals from the side of Israel towards its commitment to the principles of peace will lead to more violence which threatens the future of the region.

During his meeting on Monday morning in Amman with the chairman of the foreign relations committee for defense and the armed forces at the French Senate, he said that at the time when Israel calls on the Palestinians to abide by cease- fire for seven days, its forces still pursue the policy of assassination and breaking into or closure.

Practices which make things more complicated. He criticized Sharon's policy to this effect.

Concerning Iraq, Ali Abu al-Ragheb stressed that Jordan which rejects the principle of sanctions expresses hope that the international community will reconsider these sanctions in order to reach a formula that will be fair for both Iraq and its neighbors and pleases the UN Security Council and the international community.

In statements to the press following his meeting with the Jordanian Premier, the French official stressed that his country and the states of the European Union will work together with the US to proceed forward into the peace process. He announced that his country will work with the permanent states at the UN Security Council to find out a resolution conducive to a better solution for the Iraqi issue.
