Eli Hubeiqa is ready to appear before the Belgian judiciary
Lebanon, Politics, 7/6/2001

Lebanese minister and former member of parliament Eli Hubeiqa has expressed his satisfaction to debate the 'Sabra and Shatilla' massacres, committed by the Israeli occupation forces and the militias of the "Lebanese Forces" during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 before the Belgian Judiciary, hoping that he will be availed the chance to say the truth and to prove he is not guilty from the accusations addressed against him by Kahana Israeli committee.

He considered that this committee does not constitute the neutral reference that can be resorted to its rules. He indicated to launch a " more comprehensive confrontation to disclose all events of the war took place in Lebanon."

Hubeiqa was a chairman for the central security department in the "Lebanese Forces, " when Israel committed these crimes in the southern area of Beirut on September 16 and 17, 1982.

It was said then that Hubeiqa was standing beside the Israeli defense minister then ( the commander of the invasion) at that time Ariel Sharon on the roof of a building overlooking the stage of the massacre.

Also mass media at that time said that both of them ( Hubeiqa and Sharon) were giving directives to the Israeli soldiers and members of the militias who killed more than one thousands Palestinians and hundreds of Lebanese and deformed their bodies.

In a press conference he held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Lebanese Editors Union ( Journalists Union), Hubeiqa added " I have not at any day escaped to be presented before the Lebanese judiciary in order to escape an inquiry or an investigation."

Replying to a question, put by journalists, Hubeiqa continued that he might file a case before the judiciary:" I will be presented before any honest court in Belgium, or the Hague, or New York or Paris or Milano."

"In my pocket there are information on what had happened. When these will be presented there will be a story quite different from the story of Kahana's committee." Replying to another question, Hubeiqa denied to be in the place of the massacre when it was committed. He said:" I challenge every one to say I was there. One who has something to say let him give his testimony."

He was asked whether he denied the existence of Lebanese elements (Phalangists or Lebanese forces) that carried out the massacre, he said " I have proofs and evidences that will change the story narrated by the Israelis not only to prove I am not guilty but also to prove the innocence of the Lebanese team which was accused."
