Lebanese Foreign minister confers with US delegate William Burns
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 7/6/2001

The Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud has stressed during his meeting today in Beirut with the US delegate William Burns, Lebanon's right to restore back the Shebaa farms and to release all Lebanese detainees held in the Israeli jails.

The Lebanese minister called on the US delegate that the US interfere in order to pressure Israel to halt its violations and provocation and to hand over Lebanon the map of land mines Israel implanted in South Lebanon before its withdrawal from it in May 2000.

Burns, on the other hand, stressed the commitment of the US to its attempts to revive the political negotiations and the negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians and to put an end to the cycle of violence which proved to be as a deadlocked wall.

He stressed his country's strong commitment to return back to resuming comprehensive negotiations built on UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338, the land for peace formula and the Madrid's terms of reference.
