Iraq approves the 'oil for food' new program
Iraq, Politics, 7/6/2001
Iraq has approved its consent on the new UN plan on extending the "oil for food" program for five months.
The Iraqi ambassador at the UN Muhammad al-Douri said in statements to thre press that Iraq is waiting the signing of the agreement on Friday ( today), noting that there is no reason not to proceed to this effect.
On the other hand, a spokesman for the UN said that discussions continue in order to settle technical matters before the agreement will take its final shape through signing messages, noting that differences are just on few words which are only of concern to Iraq.
Last Tuesday, the UN Security Council extended the "oil for food" program which avails Iraq to sell amounts of oil for having basic items, under the precise control of the UN.
