Mubarak, Prince Abdullah resume talks on Arab issues, bilateral relations

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resumed talks with Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Crown Prince on Arab issues and bilateral relations.
Egyptian -Saudi talks underlined identity of views and rejection of Israeli practices that are aimed at hindering implementation of Mitchell Committee recommendations.
The two sides underlined the need for reactivating international efforts so that Israel may abide by the agreements signed.
Talks also emphasized the Palestinian sovereignty over Jerusalem and inevitability of the restoration by the Palestinian people of legitimate rights through resuming negotiations between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israel.
Talks between President Mubarak and Prince Abdullah underlined the importance of boosting bilateral relations and developing cooperation through the meetings of the joint Higher Egyptian -Saudi committee, adding horizons of cooperation and exchange of expertise mainly in the field of marketing, gas and petrochemical projects, were also examined.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said the two leaders underlined their keenness to maintain contacts between them adding talks reflected identity of stance between Egypt and Saudi -Arabia towards Arab issues and higher interests of the Arab nation.
He said Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed on the need for facing up to the risks threatening the Arab nation.
He noted that President Mubarak and Prince Abdullah were facing up to the Israeli violation of principles of international legitimacy and law and supporting legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people in restoring their rights.
He said Israel, though it accepted Mitchell committee proposals, yet it was hindering their implementation.
Maher expounded that he had a telephone conversation with Secretary of State Colin Powell on Monday night during which they reviewed the situation in the occupied lands and underlined the need for carrying out items of Mitchell report, in order to shore up ceasefire agreement that is violated by Israel.
He stressed the importance of deploying international observers for monitoring ceasefire agreement.
He said he also had a telephone conversation with Javier Solana, the EU Foreign Policy Chief.
He said they underlined the need for Europe to play an active role in pushing forward peace process.
President Mubarak and Prince Abdullah held an evening session on the current positions in the region.
