Regional, Education, 7/4/2001

The executive council of the Arab league Educational, Cultural and Scientific organization (ALECSO) which wound up its session in Tunis Tuesday will hold its 75th session in April 2002 in Morocco.

Morocco was represented at the Tunis session by a delegation, led by minister of higher education, executive training and scientific training, Najib Zerouali. The official proposed to submit a proposal he made to set up an Arab bio-ethical committee to the upcoming session.

He stressed the importance of the ethics dimension in scientific research and recalled that UNESCO had set up in its session held in Morocco in 1999 an inter-governmental bio-ethical committee.

He also proposed that the upcoming session also examines proposals related to financial resource, Arab science and internet. He said the Organization should conduct study on the history of Arab science.

The ALECSO executive council agreed to develop an education program to face psychological effects of Israeli aggressions on Palestinian children and hold an itinerant exhibition on Islamic legacy of Al-Quds.

The council agreed on the need to coordinate efforts by Arab and regional organizations and funds to assist education, cultural and scientific institutions and support the Intifadah in Palestine.
