Israel continues assassinating Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/3/2001
The Israeli forces on Monday assassinated three palestinians by firing six missiles from a helicopter on their car to the East of Jenin. The three killed Palestinians were Muhammad Basharat, Samih Nouri Abu Hmeish and Walid Sidqi Besharat.
The governor of Jenin Zuheir Manasera said that the plane was depicting the movement of the three men who were members in the Islamic Jihad movement and opened its missiles on their car.
The secretary general of the Palestinian Authority Ahmad Abdul Rahman said that the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people have not stopped and that the US secretary of state Colin Powell returned back to his country without giving a solution to the current situation.
Abdul Rahman continued that Israel still violates all international legitimacy resolutions and did not implement any of the articles of the Mitchell committee report and therefore " the Palestinians continue their intifada until the end." For his part, the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat said tha Israel has violated the already fragile cease- fire and that the international community calls for condemning Israel and moving towards halting its ugly crimes against the Palestinian people.
The Israeli forces arrested one Palestinian officer and one member of the Hamas movement in Jenin and took them to unknown place.
Meantime, the Israeli settlers broke into al-Kharsaneyah quarters in Hebron and set fire in many Palestinian cars and then opened their machine- guns fire in all directions in order to terrify the Palestinians.
The Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon renewed his rejection to hold negotiations with the Palestinians unless the Intifada is halted. In a speech before the Israeli Knesset, Sharon said: "This position will not be changed and we will not implement the Mitchell plan before the restoration of full calm.," as he claimed.
While the Palestinians held the funeral for the three Palestinians on Monday, they chanted slogans to revenge their killing. A statement by the Islamic Jihad movement stressed that the movement will revenge the " blood of the martyrs and will give Israel a lesson by which Israel to know that the Palestinian blood is dearest than all documents of surrender." Palestinians, on the other hand, killed one armed settler in Toulkarem and wounded another near Ramullah. They detonated an Israeli patrol at the cross- road of " Natsareim" in Gaza and also detonated another Israeli patrol in Bethlehem.
Five Israeli settlers were wounded when two booby- trapped cars went off in the downtown of " Ehuda" near Tel Aviv.
The Israeli radio said the police found a third explosive that did not blow off and was dismantled and that large scale inspection works took place in the sites of the two explosions.
The People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the two car explosions in Ehuda settlement. A statement by the front said that this operation is in retaliation to the Israeli assassination of five palestinians on Sunday.
On the other hand, the UN special envoy in the region Terry Larsen said it is more expected that the cease- fire between Israel and the Palestinians will not last and that the situation is very difficult.
Laresen expressed deep concern over the deteriorated conditions in which the Palestinians live.
