Al-Assad gets a telephone call from Khatami, confers with Berri

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday in Damascus received the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih berri. Talks dealt with current conditions in the region and the continued Israeli threats against Syria and Lebanon as well as the fraternal relations linking the two " sisterly countries."
On Monday evening, President Bashar al-Assad received a telephone call from President Muhammad Khatami of the Islamic Republic of Iran in which the Iranian President denounced the Israeli aggression against one of the positions of the Syrian forces working in Lebanon and voiced backing and solidarity of Iran with Syria and Lebanon in confrontation of the Israeli aggression.
During the telephone call the two presidents also reviewed bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
Meantime, the Syrian foregn minister Farouk al-Shara received a telephone call from his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi during which discussions dealt with recent developments in the region and the policy of escalation and aggression pursued by Israel.
Kharazi expressed his country's condemnation to the repeated Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, stressing Iran's total suppor and solidarity to Syria and Lebanon against any Israeli aggression.
On Sunday evening, Kharazi denounced the Israeli aggressiona against one position for the Syrian forces in Lebanon. He called for "the need of the unity of the Arab and Islamic states in confrontation of the Zionist aggressions."
