Sudanese opposition accepts amended formula of the peace plan
Sudan, Politics, 7/3/2001

The Sudanese opposition has unanimously approved an amended formula for the Egyptian- Libyan initiative to establish peace in Sudan which states to form a provisional government.

News reports quoted the spokesman for the democratic national coalition Hatem al-Surr Ali as saying that the coalition which includes the northern opposition and the rebel movement in the south approved unanimously in conclusions of meetings which lasted for three days in cairo on the amended formula of the Egyptian- Libyan initiative for peace in Sudan.

On the other hand, Bajan Ammoun, one of the leaders of the democratic national coalition said that the opposition will add to the peace initiative two main principles which are self- determination in Sudan and singling out the religion from the state.

He explained that the democratic national coalition formulated a committee to formulate an answer to the plan that will guarantee these two principles and to be submitted to the Egyptian and Libyan authorities.
