Britain will give up financing the Turkish Eleiso dam
Turkey, Local, 7/3/2001

The British daily the " Observer" said on Sunday that the British government will give up its plan to finance the project of the Turkish Eleiso dam on the Tigris river because of the report which shows of the negative consequences which the project will leave on the life of thousands of people.

The paper quoted British officials as saying that the report said that the project makes it difficult, or rather impossible to proceed forward to providing a British financial reporting to the Turkish government to carry out the said dam project.

Worthy mentioning that the report indicated that the dam will destroy the life of thousands of citizens who live in the surrounding villages in the area of the project and will lead to destroying historical monuments in " Hassan Keif" area where the proposed dam will be situated.
