Nine principles to achieve reconciliation in Sudan

The negotiation paper proposed by the two states of the Egyptian- Libyan joint initiative to establish reconciliation in Sudan included nine basic principles for maintaining comprehensive political solution in this country.These include the formation of a provisional government with the participation of all political activists, according to an agreed upon program.

The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Itihad quoted well-informed sources as saying that the document adopted the principle of multi party democracy in order to rule country, ensuring all freedoms, honoring human rights and commitment to international principles. The UAE daily noted tha the nine principles are completely free from indicating to any right to self determination and the referendum in South Sudan. A measure which was approved unanimously by all Sudanese political foces including both the government and the opposition.

The paper stressed Sudan's unity and left it for the sides concerned to decide the form of unity that will be accepted by all, but indicated a decentralized state and ruled out federation or a confederation.
