News reports said that the US secretary of State Colin Powell has failed to put an end to the bloody confrontation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Both Israeli and American officials explained that meetings scheduled to be held between Powell and the Israeli prime minister and with the chairman of the Palestinian authority Yasser Arafat were canceled because of not reaching solutions satisfactory for the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

Powell headed to Jordan few hours before the set date in order to hold talks with the Jordanian King Abdullah II to support what is called the " fragile cease fire between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Meantime, the secretary of the Israeli government Jad'oun Sager said that there are understandings between Israel and the USA on basic issues relating to the current condition in the occupied territories.

He said that the US did not accept the current conditions in the occupied territories. He explained that the US did not accept the Palestinian position which called for implementing the report of the Mitchell committee and to join into the political issues under what he called acts of violence in the occupied territories.

Meantime, five Palestinians were wounded when the Israeli forces fired a shell at a civilian Jeep car carrying them near Khan Younis to the south of Gaza. Palestinian sources said that the wounded Palestinians age between 25 to 52 and three of them are in critical conditions.
