Iraq and the free zone

The director of the Iraqi free zone area Hameed Shuker said that Iraq asked the Syrian government to permit the Iraqi citizens enter directly to the free zone area established by Iraq in al-Qaem area on the joint border with Syria.

In a statement issued on Friday by the United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Bayan, Shuker added that Iraq will open very soon the free trade area in al-Qaem city near the borders with Syria and that:" we have asked Syria to approve directly the entry of its citizens to the free zone, the same way the Iraqis are permitted."

He explained that the Iraqi request will avail the Syrians exhibit their products in the free zone like the Iraqis and to make use of other available facilities provided in the Iraqi free trade areas which are known for its lower prices.
