Government amends communal charter

A government meeting held on Thursday, under the chairmanship of premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi, adopted a draft communal charter in tune with deep variations in Morocco and progress in human rights.
Morocco's communication and culture minister, Mohamed Achaari, told reporters the new proposed amendments conform to the will of King Mohammed VI, the government and political forces and is based on objectives outlined by the 7th national colloquy of local councils. The political aspect of these reforms deal with consecrating political dialogue, increasing local responsibilities and autonomy while the socio-economic aspect consists of increasing the local councils' role in development, wealth generating and in the management of local social affairs.
