Lebanon rejects to link the fate of the detainees in Israel
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 6/29/2001
The Lebanese Hizbullah Party asked for the release of the Lebanese detainees held in the Israeli jails and all other Arab and Palestinians held in the Israeli jails as well as for Israel to hand over the maps of mines the Israeli forces implanted in South Lebanon before its pullout on May 25, 2000.
The Israeli forces refused the requests of the Hizbullah party except for releasing the Lebanese detainees, but against all that it set a precondition to provide it with information on the body of the Israeli pilot Ron Arad.
Following that, Germany has started a mediation process between Israel and Hizbullah to settle this issue, but the mediators were blocked by each side's rejection to the conditions set by the other and then Germany announced that its mediation was halted. This issue entered a stalemate period until it was recently revived by the US.
