Five persons killed in police confrontations with Somali militias
Somalia, Politics, 6/29/2001
Five persons were killed at least and other 20 wounded most of them civilians, following clashes between the Somali police and the militia which opposes the new Somali government, led by Hussein Aideed to the north of Makadishu.
News reports quoted eye-witnesses as saying that during the confrontations heavy artillery and anti missiles and tanks shells were used and this horrified the citizens of the capital Makadishu for all the day.
However, the Somali government deployed 2000 members of the police force in an important step to show off its power since the formation of the new government in August.
