Larsen: living conditions of the Palestinians is in its worst
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/28/2001
The representative for the UN secretary general in the Middle East Terry Larsen, who is also the coordinator of the UN activities in the Palestinian territories said that the Palestinian living conditions level has greatly receded as a result of the siege and the Israeli policy of closure imposed on the Palestinian territories.
In a speech he delivered before the 7th conference of the UN organizations working in the Palestinian territories, Larsen added:" the living condition in Palestine has receded tremendously in an unprecedented way. We are facing the greatest crisis ever witnessed by the Middle East since the signing of the initials of the Oslo agreement in 1993."
Meantime, some 18 UN organizations working in the Palestinian territories are holding their 7th annual conference which was dedicated this year to discuss the current crisis and its reflections on the Palestinians as well as to find out the outlet through which the UN will help to withstand the consequences of the economic and humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territories, according to Marwan Ali, Larsen press office director in Gaza.
