Israel continues attacking the Palestinians, Sharon refuses Bush's call to freeze settlements
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/28/2001

The Israeli forces on Wednesday broke into Saleit al-Daher village in Jenin in the West Bank where confrontation erupted and resulted in serious wounds among Palestinan citizens.

Near Nablus, the Israeli soldiers opened fire randomly against the Palestinan citizens and wounded many of them while a bomb was thrown at " Tarmit" settlement near Rafah and three shells were dropped at an Israeli military position in the same area. An explosive went off near " Natsareim settlement" in Gaza when an Israeli on foot patrol was running by and resulted in attacking the patrol, and fire was opened at an israeli military position near Nafeh Dekalim settlement.

Meanwhile, tens of Israeli settlers rushed into the roads of " Shomroun," near Nablus and imposed a siege on Deit Atesia village and harassed and provoked its people under the protection of the Israeli forces and up-rooted tens of olive trees.

As the Israeli forces carried out a detention campaign that targeted 58 Palestinians near al-Teira city in the territories of 1948, one of the Palestinian accused of working for Israel, named Subhi Muhammad Ghanem was killed in Qalqilya in the West Bank at the hands of gunmen who took him to an area falls under Israel's full control and opened fire at him.

Meanwhile, heads of settlements asked the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to escalate military operations against the Palestinians and to intensify building of settlements, as the Israeli Meretz Movement on Wednesday proposed to vote non-confidence on Sharon over the escalation of social problems among the Israelis.

On the other hand, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon admitted that there is differences between him and the US President George Bush over the settlements and renewed his assertion to continue this policy. Sharon who is now in Washington renewed his assertion that the position of the Americans is different from his own position concerning the settlements, but he considered that such a difference will not damage bilateral relations, and stressed the need of continued building of the Israeli settlements in the occupied Arab lands to meet what he had called the Israeli population growth.

According to the Israeli radio Bush called during his meeting with Sharon on Tuesday for immediate freezing of the settlement according to the recommendations of the mitchell committee.
