Moroccan northern regions absorb between 8 to 9 billion dh in investments annually

Investments injected in northern Morocco are worth an annual 8 to 9 billion DH (US$ 727 to 818 million), said Morocco's premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
The head of government, who was speaking at a meeting of administrative board of the agency for the economic and social promotion and development of northern regions, said the funds go to developing the entire region accordingly to each area's natural peculiarities, material constraints and population needs.
He cited the construction of a dam (460 million DH) to meet water needs and supply drinking water in the city of Taza and neighboring village and other ongoing projects to break the isolation of the mountainous regions, including the Mediterranean coastal road for a cost of four billion Dirhams. Two important stretches of this road are completed with a 150 million DH-contribution for the agency and calls for bids were published for other stretches.
He also said the road needs to be linked to the highway network.
An ongoing rural roads projects will build 1,400 km of roads in the region, through international loans, he said, underscoring that 760 villages were linked to the power grid, helping to reduce rural exodus and improve schooling and health services in remote areas.
Of drinking water, the prime minister said several localities and villages in the region are now getting drinking water for a cost of 600 Million DH, including 86 Millions brought by the agency.
Regarding economic activity, he said the agency has helped in creating and rehabilitating industrial compounds while in tourism the agency has been collaborating with the finance ministry and foreign countries to develop an ecological and cultural tourism.
For Youssoufi, the region needs to drain more investments from the private sector and the Moroccan expatriate community.
