The Jewish community and President Chirac
Syria-France, Politics, 6/27/2001
The Israeli radio said on Tuesday that the leadership of the Jewish community in France had met with the French President Jacques Chirac several weeks ago and asked him to work for postponing President Bashar al-Assad's visit to France, until he ( the Syrian President) will give apologies for his statements allegedly to be made against the Jews. The Israeli radio said that the Elysee palace refused this request.
The radio added that on the sideline of this visit, President Bashar al-Assad called on the European state to play a role in the Middle East peace process.
