A new election law in Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 6/26/2001

Jordanian governmental sources have expected that the election law which is under preparation by a special ministerial committee in implementation of instructions of the Jordanian King Abdullah to skip the " one voice article" which resulted in the boycott of the Jordanian opposition to the elections of 1997.

The sources explained that the ministerial committee will adopt the relative list demanded by the opposition parties more than one year ago in an attempt to find out an outlet to the crisis of boycotting the elections. This attempt is manifested in allocating a party list at the level of Jordan including 40 seats in addition to electing 80 members of parliament on the ground of the " one voice principle."

On the other hand, the higher coordination committee of the opposition parties held a meeting during which discussions dealt with recent developments on the Jordanian arena, pertinent to desolving the parliament and the directives given by King Abdullah to the government to prepare a contemporary ( advanced) election law and the stand of the opposition towards this law.
