French paper and Syrian redeployment in Lebanon
Syria-France, Politics, 6/25/2001

The Monte Carlo radio said on Sunday that the French daily " Le point " issued on Sunday said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is truly seeking to push forward the cycle of progress in his country but at the same time considered the operation of redeployment the Syrian army made in Lebanon since several days as an operation aiming to improve " Damascus's face abroad before the visit of President al-Assad to France."

The radio added that the paper gave a wide coverage in praising the character of the wife of the Syrian President Asmaa al-Assad, who will accompany him in his visit to France.

The paper added that the "Syrian first lady" is an elite and modern lady who had her education in Britain and asked to visit the French central bank and the higher commerce sciences school.

The paper commented on that by saying that her wish for such visit is scarcely demanded by a visiting woman at such a rank, during an official visit. A matter which raised the interests of the French officials.
