Mubarak held with parties concerned to calm down situation in occupied territories

The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had intensive contacts with the parties concerned with the peace process with the aim of containing dangerous positions in the Middle East, shoring up ceasefire agreement, and carrying out security measures as a preliminary step towards resuming negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

To this effect, President Mubarak Wednesday got a telephone call from US President George Bush during which they reviewed the results of contacts underway between Palestinians and Israelis.

President Mubarak stressed the importance of exerting utmost efforts for reaching positive and faithful results that secure the legitimate rights and maintain security and stability for all parties.

President Bush posted President Mubarak on the visit to be paid to the region by Secretary of State Colin Powell next week for boosting efforts aimed at reaching a full dressed agreement between the two sides.

President Mubarak said any agreement should maintain the rights and legitimate demands of the Palestinian people.

President Mubarak got a telephone call from Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during which the President stressed the importance of commitment to ceasefire agreement and carrying out the agreements reached on the security level and taking the necessary political steps in the framework of Mitchell committee recommendations.

President Mubarak Wednesday got a telephone call from President Yasser Arafat upon his return to Ramallah during which they reviewed some issues they had tackled earlier in the morning yesterday.
